Before Everything Changes
Maternity Photography in Cork

Pregnancy can feel like a blur.

Between appointments, nursery planning, work, and everything else going on, it’s easy to forget that this chapter matters too.

You’re tired, busy, don’t quite feel like yourself, or think you’ll do it “next week.”

And then suddenly the baby is here.

A maternity session is simply a chance to pause for a moment and celebrate this part of the journey before it becomes a memory.

My approach is simple.

No pressure to know how to pose.
No pressure to feel confident in front of the camera.
No pressure to be anything other than yourself.

I’ll guide you through everything and create beautiful, natural portraits that celebrate both your pregnancy and you.

A Session Designed Around You

Every maternity session is planned individually.

Some women love timeless studio portraits. Others prefer something more artistic or fashion-inspired. Some want their partner involved, while others want the experience entirely for themselves.

We’ll plan the session together so the final photographs feel personal and meaningful.

When Should I Book?

The ideal time for a maternity session is between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy.

By then your bump is beautifully defined, while you’re hopefully still comfortable enough to enjoy the experience.

More Than Digital Images

My goal isn’t simply to create photographs that live on a phone.

I want to create portraits that become part of your home. Images your children will one day see hanging on the wall, tucked inside an album, or sitting in a frame on a shelf.

The kind of photographs that become more valuable as the years pass.

If you’d like to read more about why that matters so much to me, I invite you to read my article, Be Seen.

Maternity Photography FAQs

When is the best time to book my maternity session?

The ideal time for a maternity session is usually between 28 and 36 weeks.
At that stage, your bump is beautifully visible, but you’re often still comfortable enough to enjoy the experience. If you’re already in that window, I’d recommend getting in touch sooner rather than later so I can check availability for you.

Can my partner or children be in the photos too?

Yes — absolutely.
If you’d like to include your partner or children, I usually recommend having them join for the final part of the session. That way we can focus on your individual portraits first, and then finish with the family connection images. Simple, neutral clothing always works best — I’ll guide you on that beforehand too.

How long does a maternity session take?

My full maternity sessions are relaxed and unhurried, and usually last around 2–3 hours. 4 if including hair & makeup.
That gives us time for outfit changes, styling, breaks, and a good mix of portraits without anything feeling rushed.

Where does the session take place?

Maternity sessions usually take place at my studio in Glanmire, Cork:
Bella Daly Photography Unit 28, Glanmire Business Park Glanmire, Cork, T45 YC82. It’s a calm, private studio space where we can take our time and create something beautiful without feeling watched or rushed.

What should I wear — and do you provide outfits?

Yes — I have a small curated maternity wardrobe in the studio, including gowns, fabrics and styling pieces you’re welcome to use.
I usually suggest combining one or two studio pieces with something from your own wardrobe too — for example an oversized shirt, fitted dress, blazer, jeans, knitwear or something that feels like you. Before your session, we’ll plan styling together so you know exactly what to bring and what will photograph best.

Should I get hair and makeup done?

Hair and makeup are completely optional, but many clients love having them done as it helps them feel polished and relaxed going into the session.
If you do choose to have it done, I’d recommend keeping it soft and natural rather than very heavy or overly glam. I can also arrange for a trusted local artists if helpful.

What should I know about fake tan, nails and prep?

A little prep goes a long way, but nothing needs to be overthought.
you don’t normally wear fake tan, I’d avoid trying it just for the session. If you do like a bit of colour, a gradual tan tends to photograph much more naturally than a very dark fresh tan. For nails, I’d keep them clean and neutral if possible, as hands often feature quite prominently in maternity portraits.

What should my family wear?

Simple, neutral clothing photographs beautifully.
Creams, beiges, taupes, earthy tones and black photograph beautifully. I generally recommend avoiding bright white clothing, as it can draw attention away from baby.
Pintetest Inspiration

I feel awkward in front of the camera — will you guide me?

Yes — completely.
Most women tell me they feel nervous before their maternity session, especially if they don’t feel naturally confident in front of the camera. That’s incredibly normal. You don’t need any experience, and you don’t need to know how to pose. I’ll guide you through the entire session in a way that feels natural, flattering and comfortable, so you’re never left wondering what to do.

What happens on the day of the session?

The session itself is calm, guided and very relaxed.
ou don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands — I’ll guide you through the whole thing. We’ll work through the styling and setups we’ve planned, take breaks if needed, and keep the pace comfortable from start to finish. You don’t need to “perform” for the camera. My job is to make you feel comfortable and help you look your best.

What happens after the session?

Around 2–3 weeks after your session, you’ll come back to the studio for your Viewing & Ordering Appointment.
That’s when you’ll see your finished images for the first time and choose your favourites. If you’d like to explore wall art or printed pieces for your home, I’ll guide you through that then too. There’s no need to decide on anything in advance — we’ll do it together once you’ve seen your gallery.
